SOPEX CONSULTING provided GDK (Compagnie des Grands Domaines du Katanga) with technical assistance for the management of the Mangombo agricultural project (concession of +/-10,000 ha.) located in the province of Katanga.

The technical assistance staff is composed of 3 permanent experts who have provided continuous support to the different cultivation activities (soil preparation and tillage, sowing, fertilizing, weeding, harvesting...). SOPEX CONSULTING has provided specific expertise and advice on the purchase of inputs, equipment (tractors, harvesters, farm implements, graders, etc.) and on the installation of corn storage units.

Other technical inputs and management advice were provided. For example, SOPEX CONSULTING helped refine the choice of corn varieties adapted to local conditions, set up an efficient management system, GIS mapping and develop the use of renewable energy.

Assistance was also provided to the company in marketing, negotiating commercial agreements with mining companies and international organizations (WFP).

SOPEX CONSULTING's technical assistance enabled the company to harvest in 2017, a production of 9,000 tons of grain. A large part of the corn was transformed into different types of flours through a processing unit. SOPEX CONSULTING also supported the development of small local producers who are mainly GDK workers and villagers by facilitating their work (tractors...), supplying them with inputs, providing technical advice and assisting in the marketing of finished products. Training of local staff has been provided to increase capacity both in the field and in the maintenance and repair workshop.
