Prospecting study of a gold mining perimeter and socio-economic analysis

REPUBLIC OF CONGO

2015-2016

In consortium with Sopex Congo, Sopex Consulting carried out a prospecting study of a gold-bearing perimeter of over 1,000 km2. The main objective was to characterize and define the potential of the perimeter with a view to requesting an extension of the permit, or even to extend it to a semi-industrial exploitation authorization. The study was completed by a socio-economic approach and by the formulation of recommendations for the development of existing artisanal (gold miners) and semi-industrial activities.

Sopex's mission consisted of :

  • 1
to gather and consult existing documentation and to define targeted prospecting areas on the basis of the latter.
  • 2
to carry out a work of sampling of more than 300 samples over more than one month.
  • 3
to send the referenced samples to an accredited laboratory in South Africa.
  • 4
to carry out a socio-economic study in the field, particularly in relation to the gold miners illegally occupying the concession.
  • 5
to analyze the results received from the analysis laboratory, interpret them, make maps.
  • 6
to write a comprehensive report presenting the results and proposing future directions that the client could take in relation to the development of the activities.
